Major Traffic Alert: San Jose Boulevard Closure

Jacksonville commuters are facing significant disruptions this morning, Friday, February 20, 2026, following a serious overnight traffic crash on San Jose Boulevard. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has closed all northbound and southbound lanes in the 10900 block of San Jose Boulevard, near the I-295 interchange. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue confirmed that at least one individual was transported from the scene with life-threatening injuries. Due to the scale of the investigation, the closure has persisted into the morning rush hour, and drivers are strongly encouraged to use Old St. Augustine Road or Phillips Highway as alternate routes to avoid the area.

Interstate Construction and Lane Restrictions

Long-term infrastructure projects continue to affect major arteries throughout Duval County. Motorists should plan for the following conditions:

  • I-95 Widening: Construction remains active on I-95 between Emerson Street and Atlantic Boulevard. While most heavy work is scheduled for overnight hours, shifting lane configurations and narrow shoulders are causing sluggish traffic during peak morning and afternoon periods.
  • I-95 at I-295 North Interchange: The multi-year interchange improvement project on the Northside is nearing its spring completion date but still requires caution. Drivers should expect varying lane patterns near Mile Marker 362.
  • I-10 Widening: Work continues on the I-10 corridor between I-295 and I-95. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the highway near the King Parkway (US-1) exit.

Surface Street Roadworks

Several primary surface streets are also undergoing improvements that may slow down local travel:

  • Southside Boulevard: Resurfacing and safety enhancements are ongoing near the intersection of Deerwood Park Boulevard. While much of the work occurs between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., temporary daytime lane shifts may still be present.
  • Cassat and Edgewood Avenue: Long-term road construction on SR-111 (Cassat Ave/Edgewood Ave) from Beaver Street to North Old Kings Road is ongoing, with localized delays expected.
  • Main Street (US-17): Construction between Baisden Road and the Nassau River Bridge continues to impact Northside travel.

Public Transit and Skyway Updates

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) has not issued any emergency service alerts for the bus or First Coast Flyer networks this morning. However, JTA has officially announced a series of public meetings regarding the future of the Skyway monorail system. While the Skyway remains operational, these meetings—scheduled to begin next week—will discuss the rehabilitation and modernization of the system as part of the U²C project. Commuters are advised to check the JTA mobile app for real-time bus tracking and any minor route detours caused by the San Jose Boulevard closure.
