Official Health Advisory: Measles Vaccination Recommended

The Florida Department of Health in Duval County has issued a public health advisory following the confirmation of measles cases within the Northeast Florida region. As of Sunday, February 8, 2026, health officials have verified two cases in children in Duval County and one case in an adult in neighboring St. Johns County. Chief Health Officer Dr. Sunil Joshi has emphasized the critical importance of maintaining up-to-date immunizations to prevent community spread.

Residents are encouraged to review their vaccination records. The MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine remains the most effective defense, with a two-dose series providing approximately 97% protection. Local health centers continue to offer immunizations, and residents are urged to contact their primary care providers if they suspect exposure or exhibit symptoms such as high fever, cough, or a characteristic red rash.

While there are no immediate road closures scheduled for this Sunday, residents near the Northside and Rail Yard District should expect increased construction traffic and heavy machinery in the area throughout the coming weeks.
