Health Advisory: Measles Monitoring
The Florida Department of Health in Duval County is continuing to monitor the community following the confirmation of measles cases in Northeast Florida. Health officials have recently reported cases in two children within Duval County and one adult in neighboring St. Johns County. Residents are urged to ensure their immunizations are up to date. Free vaccination clinics have been established at local branches of the Jacksonville Public Library to provide MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccines to eligible residents. Chief Health Officer Dr. Sunil Joshi emphasizes that while containment efforts are underway, vaccination remains the primary defense against community spread.
Public Service Updates and Roadwork
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has announced that the Police Memorial Building and the Forfeiture Warehouse have reopened for normal business as of this morning, Tuesday, February 3, following temporary closures due to weather-related maintenance. In the transportation sector, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) continues its I-10 and I-295 widening projects. Motorists should anticipate nighttime lane closures and detours at major interchanges through Thursday evening. Specifically, commuters using Normandy Boulevard near New World Road should prepare for night work and potential delays between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
