Public Works and Infrastructure Advisories
The Department of Public Works continues progress on several major Capital Improvement Plan projects. Motorists and residents should be aware of active construction zones:
- McCoy’s Creek Greenway: Construction remains active between Leland Street and Margaret Street. This phase includes the installation of pedestrian bridges, boardwalks, and a new shared-use path. Residents should expect intermittent sidewalk closures in the surrounding area through the end of the month.
- Siversmith Creek Bridge: Maintenance work on Atlantic Blvd (SR 10) continues, including milling, resurfacing, and the construction of new bridge railings and sidewalks. Reduced lane widths may be in effect during off-peak hours.
- Riverfront Plaza Phase I: Construction activity remains high at the former Jacksonville Landing site as crews work on the great lawn and rooftop playground structures.
Health and Environmental Notices
Drought Restrictions: The St. Johns River Water Management District has issued a Phase II drought declaration for Duval County. Effective immediately, residential landscape irrigation is limited to one day per week until further notice. This measure is intended to stabilize regional water resources following an unusually dry winter season.
Water Conservation Grant: JEA has been awarded a $3 million grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. These funds are designated for water conservation programs, including customer incentives for WaterSense-certified products to further reduce local demand.
Public Health Update: Following the report of five confirmed measles cases in Duval County earlier this season, the City’s Chief Health Officer continues to urge parents to ensure children are up to date on vaccinations. The Florida Department of Health in Duval County remains active in contact tracing and monitoring to prevent further transmission.
