Parents of Christina Smith describe unanswered questions after deadly March 2025 shooting at Jacksonville daycare

A family’s account nearly a year after a fatal incident at a Northwest Jacksonville child care facility
Nearly a year after 35-year-old Christina Smith was shot and killed at a Northwest Jacksonville daycare, her parents have publicly described the final phone call with their daughter and the questions they say remain unresolved as the investigation continues.
The shooting occurred on March 11, 2025, at 5K Little Dreamerz Academy on Winton Drive in Jacksonville’s Ribault area. Officers responded around midday to a report of a woman who had been shot. Smith was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
What investigators have said about the shooting
Investigators described the incident as involving a firearm discharging while being removed from the trunk of a vehicle. Smith was struck in the chest. Police said at the time there were no reports of an argument immediately beforehand and described the man involved as being in a long-term domestic relationship with Smith.
No arrests have been announced. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has said the case remains an active investigation, leaving the incident’s final classification and any potential charges unresolved in public records.
Parents’ statements focus on last moments and a lack of closure
Smith’s father, Tracy Smith, said he was the last person to speak with his daughter by phone. He recalled her telling him she was hurt and asking for help.
Smith’s mother, Christine Little, said she was present at the daycare and heard the gunshot before stepping outside. She said she saw her daughter fall and the man standing near her. Little has sought clarity about what was said in the moments after Smith was shot.
The man involved was identified by family members as Smith’s husband, Glenn Felix. The family has said he remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Custody questions add a legal and personal dimension
Beyond the criminal investigation, the family’s public comments also highlighted a separate, ongoing issue: legal custody of Smith’s five children. Her parents said they are seeking to keep the siblings together and described uncertainty about the current legal status of custody.
