The primary objective of this session is to discuss the next steps for a proposed Landlord Registry and other municipal housing matters. All interested parties and members of the public are welcome to attend and participate in the discussion. Pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, individuals requiring special accommodations should contact the Disabled Services Division immediately at (904) 255-5466.
Winter Weather Health Advisory
Following a significant cold front moving through Northeast Florida, local health and emergency officials have issued an advisory regarding dangerously low temperatures. Although recent freeze warnings have transitioned, wind chills across Jacksonville are expected to remain in the 20s throughout the day. Residents are urged to take proactive measures to protect vulnerable populations. Specific safety recommendations include:
- Ensuring children are properly bundled with gloves, scarves, and layered clothing at morning transit stops.
- Limiting outdoor exposure for pets and ensuring they have warm, dry shelter.
- Insulating exposed outdoor pipes to prevent potential damage.
- Checking on elderly neighbors to ensure they have adequate indoor heating.
Due to current dry conditions, the use of outdoor fire pits is strongly discouraged to prevent accidental brush fires. Residents are advised to rely on inspected indoor fireplaces or central heating systems.
Public Service Announcement: Regional "Super Flu" Outbreak
UF Health and Northeast Florida medical providers have reported a surge in a mutated strain of influenza, colloquially termed the "super flu." Health officials indicate that this strain is spreading aggressively across Duval County, with a noted increase in pediatric hospitalizations. While symptoms mirror traditional seasonal flu, the severity is significantly higher in unvaccinated individuals. Public health officials recommend frequent handwashing, sanitizing high-touch surfaces, and staying home if symptoms arise. Residents who have not yet received their annual vaccination are encouraged to visit local clinics or pharmacies to reduce the risk of severe illness.
Legislative Update: Community Grants and Economic Development
The City Council is currently reviewing several key legislative initiatives aimed at urban renewal and industrial growth. Ordinance 2026-0036 has been introduced to establish the Eastside Community Grants Program, which would provide funding for affordable housing and homelessness mitigation in the Eastside district. Concurrently, the Council is evaluating Resolution 2026-0037 regarding "Project Underground." This project involves an economic development agreement to support the expansion of an existing manufacturing facility in Jacksonville through a proposed ten-year Recapture Enhanced Value (REV) grant.
