Public Health Advisory: Measles Response

The Florida Department of Health in Duval County has issued a regional health advisory following the confirmation of measles cases in Northeast Florida. As of early February, at least two cases have been confirmed in children within Duval County, with additional cases reported in neighboring St. Johns County. Jacksonville Chief Health Officer Dr. Sunil Joshi is urging residents to verify their immunization status.

  • Prevention: Health officials emphasize that the MMR vaccine remains the most effective defense, with a two-dose series providing approximately 97% protection.
  • Clinical Recommendations: Parents are advised to monitor children for symptoms, including high fever, cough, and a characteristic rash. Please contact your healthcare provider prior to visiting a clinic if you suspect exposure to prevent further transmission.
