Emergency Health and Weather Advisories

The City of Jacksonville Emergency Preparedness Division has extended the activation of the Warming Center Contingency Plan through Monday, February 2, 2026. Due to an arctic cold front bringing freezing temperatures and wind chills in the 20s, the Legends Center located at 5130 Soutel Drive will serve as the primary overnight warming station. The center will be open nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is providing complimentary transportation to the Legends Center for vulnerable individuals from bus stops throughout Duval County. Residents are advised to bring their own bedding, snacks, and medications. Only service animals are permitted on-site.

In addition to weather alerts, the Florida Department of Health in Duval County and city officials have issued an urgent health advisory following the confirmation of multiple measles cases within the community. Residents who have not been immunized are strongly encouraged to visit a Department of Health location or their primary care provider to receive the MMR vaccine. Public health officials are monitoring the situation and urge the public to remain vigilant for symptoms such as high fever, cough, and a characteristic rash.

Scheduled City Council and Public Meetings

Several official meetings are scheduled for Thursday, January 29, 2026, at City Hall, located at 117 West Duval Street:

Utilities and Infrastructure Notices

JEA has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for specific commercial properties in the Baymeadows area, including 8909 and 8765 Baymeadows Road. The advisory follows necessary system maintenance and is expected to remain in effect until laboratory results confirm water safety, typically a 48-hour period. Affected customers should bring all water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before consumption. Additionally, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) has implemented internal measures to protect water-containing apparatus from freezing and reminds residents to keep space heaters at least three feet away from flammable materials during this cold weather event.
