Transportation and Traffic Advisories

The City of Jacksonville and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) have announced several major traffic impacts taking effect today, Friday, March 6, 2026. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and allow for additional travel time.

  • Bay Street Closure: In preparation for the 2026 Gate River Run, Bay Street will be closed from Liberty Street to the Jacksonville Shipyards starting today at 10:00 a.m. This closure will remain in effect through Saturday afternoon. Access to the Shipyards area will be restricted to authorized event personnel and local traffic only.
  • I-95 Maintenance: Nighttime lane closures continue on I-95 between Eighth Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway. Crews will be performing road work between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Similar closures are active near the Forest Street Bridge for ongoing bridge infrastructure improvements.
  • McDuff Avenue Restrictions: Periodic nighttime road closures are scheduled for McDuff Avenue under I-10. On-ramp closures to both eastbound and westbound I-10 may occur during overnight hours to facilitate resurfacing and lighting maintenance.

Public Health Alerts

The Florida Department of Health in Duval County (DOH-Duval) has issued updates regarding community health concerns as of early March 2026.

  • Measles Surveillance: Duval County remains under a health advisory following a rise in confirmed measles cases across the state. Officials urge residents to verify their vaccination status, noting that the current outbreak has primarily affected individuals between the ages of 15 and 24. Symptoms including high fever and a distinctive rash should be reported to healthcare providers immediately.
  • AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) Changes: A new emergency rule has modified the eligibility requirements for the state’s HIV medication assistance. The income cap for participants has been significantly reduced, affecting access to life-saving medications for many residents. Community members are encouraged to attend a localized informational briefing during the AIDS Walk scheduled for March 14 at A. Philip Randolph Park.

Civic Meetings and Public Hearings

Official notices for upcoming legislative and community meetings have been posted at City Hall:

  • Land Use and Zoning: A public hearing has been set for Ordinance 2026-126 regarding a proposed land use change for approximately 1.88 acres located at 6919 Pitts Road. The application seeks to reclassify the site from Low Density Residential to Community/General Commercial.
  • Public Service Grant Council: The council will host a hybrid meeting on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ed Ball Building. The agenda includes the review of regular monthly grant allocations and public comment periods.
