Mayor Deegan to Host Town Hall as City Council Committees Tackle Busy Tuesday Agenda

Mayor Deegan Continues Town Hall Series at Douglas Anderson
Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan is scheduled to host a major town hall meeting today, Tuesday, March 3, 2026, as part of her administration's ongoing "Community Conversations" series. The event will take place at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, located at 2445 San Diego Road, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This session is the latest in a series of eight planned meetings designed to bring city leadership directly to residents.
The town hall will focus on several critical pillars of the Mayor’s current platform, including efforts to make housing and health care more affordable for Duval County residents. Additionally, the Mayor is expected to provide updates on infrastructure projects and initiatives aimed at supporting underserved neighborhoods. These meetings are free and open to the public, offering a platform for citizens to provide feedback and hear directly from city officials regarding the 2026-2027 fiscal priorities.
City Council Committees Convene for Legislative Review
While the Mayor meets with the community this evening, City Hall will be active throughout the day with several key City Council committee meetings. The legislative cycle is in full swing, with committees reviewing a wide range of ordinances and resolutions before they head to the full Council for a final vote.
- Transportation, Energy & Utilities (TEU) Committee: Meeting at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chamber, this committee is tasked with reviewing infrastructure and utility-related legislation.
- Special Committee on Duval DOGE: Scheduled for 11:00 a.m., the "Delivering On Government Efficiency" committee will meet to address matters related to the efficiency and transparency of local government operations. This committee was established to identify areas where the city can streamline services and reduce waste.
- Finance Committee: Beginning at 1:00 p.m., the Finance Committee faces a heavy workload with over 30 separate items on the agenda. These include budget transfers, grant appropriations, and financial audits crucial for the city's spring operations.
- Land Use & Zoning (LUZ) Committee: The day’s legislative activities will conclude with the LUZ Committee, which holds its agenda meeting at 4:30 p.m. followed by the full committee meeting at 5:00 p.m. to discuss property rezoning and development applications.
Public participation is encouraged at all committee meetings held at the St. James Building. Residents who cannot attend the Mayor's town hall or the afternoon committee sessions are reminded that meetings held in the Council Chamber are typically recorded and made available via the city’s official legislative portal for later viewing.
