A man was hospitalized Tuesday night after being shot in the abdomen following a hit-and-run crash on St. Johns Bluff Road in Jacksonville, according to police accounts of the incident.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said officers responded at about 9 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the 1700 block of St. Johns Bluff Road. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital with injuries described by police as non-life-threatening.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from a traffic crash in which the other driver left the scene. Police said the victim then followed the hit-and-run driver. At some point after the vehicles traveled from the original crash location, the suspect stopped and fired at the victim’s vehicle before fleeing, investigators said.
