Morning Traffic Overview

Good morning, Jacksonville. As we move into this Saturday, February 7, 2026, commuters and weekend travelers should be prepared for a mix of infrastructure-related delays and environmental alerts. Following a series of brush fires in the region on Friday, air quality and visibility remain a secondary concern for those traveling through the Northside and along the I-295 corridor.

Major Arteries and Wildfire Impact

Motorists traveling on I-295 near Lem Turner Road should remain vigilant this morning. Crews worked throughout Friday to contain a significant wildfire in the highway median that caused major slowdowns and visibility issues. While all lanes have been reopened, lingering smoke and the continued presence of emergency vehicles for "mop-up" operations may cause periodic rubbernecking and localized congestion. A regional Red Flag Warning remains in effect due to dry conditions, so drivers are urged to exercise caution and avoid any activities that could spark new blazes.

  • I-95 and I-10 Interchange: Traffic is flowing relatively well in the downtown area, but standard weekend lane shifts for the ongoing "Big I" reconstruction project are active. Expect slightly narrower lanes and lower speed limits through the downtown corridor.
  • Buckman and Dames Point Bridges: Both spans are currently reporting clear conditions with no major accidents as of 8:00 a.m. however, wind speeds are moderate, so high-profile vehicles should stay alert.

Public Transport: JTA Service Alerts

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) has several active service updates that will impact weekend riders. Notably, the Skyway South Bank Line is currently operating via a "Bus Bridge." This means that shuttle buses are replacing rail service between the Southbank stations until further notice. Riders should allow for an extra 10 to 15 minutes for their cross-river trips.

On a positive note for commuters, the JTA’s six-month fare reduction pilot program is now in full effect as of February 1. All fixed-route bus fares have been reduced to $1. Additionally, the NAVI autonomous shuttles running along Bay Street are currently free to the public, offering a convenient alternative for those traveling east-to-west through the city center.

Local Event Congestion

In addition to roadwork, local events will contribute to localized congestion today. The Black History Month Celebration at the Riverside Arts Market (RAM) begins at 10:00 a.m. This event typically creates heavy traffic on Riverside Avenue and under the Fuller Warren Bridge. Parking in the area will be highly limited. Later this evening, expect moderate delays near Friendship Fountain for "Saturday Sounds," which is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. If you are heading to these events, consider utilizing the reduced-fare JTA bus system to avoid parking frustration.
