Late-night Norwood shootout leaves two suspects wounded after car occupant reports armed confrontation, JSO says

What happened
A late-night exchange of gunfire in Northwest Jacksonville left two people hospitalized and four suspects in custody after a confrontation involving a man seated in a vehicle, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officials said.
Officers were called to the 1000 block of Crestwood Street in the Norwood area at about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026. Investigators said the man was sitting inside his car when four people armed with guns approached and ordered him to get out.
After he exited the vehicle, gunfire erupted between the man and the group, police said. Two of the suspects were struck—one in the leg and another in the back. Both were taken to a hospital and were reported in stable condition.
Police response and immediate outcome
Police said officers arrived quickly and detained the suspects at the scene. The sheriff’s office did not identify the car occupant or the suspects early Wednesday, nor did it release their ages.
Location: Crestwood Street, Norwood area of Northwest Jacksonville
Time reported: about 11:40 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026
Number of suspects described: four
Injuries reported: two suspects shot; both stable at the hospital
Custody status: suspects detained
What remains unclear
Authorities did not announce whether the detained suspects had been formally arrested or charged as of early Wednesday, and no probable cause details were released beyond the initial account of an armed approach and a demand that the man exit his vehicle.
Investigators also did not say whether the man in the vehicle was injured, whether any weapons were recovered at the scene, or whether the confrontation was connected to an attempted robbery, carjacking, or another alleged offense. The sheriff’s office has not publicly detailed whether surveillance video, witness statements, shell casing analysis, or other evidence has been collected to reconstruct the sequence of shots fired.
How self-defense claims are typically evaluated
In incidents where both parties fire weapons, investigators generally focus on the timeline of threats, the locations of participants, physical evidence such as bullet impacts and casings, and any available recordings. In Florida, the legality of using deadly force depends on specific circumstances, including whether the person reasonably believed such force was necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm, and whether other statutory conditions apply.
Anyone with information about the Crestwood Street shooting is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
What happens next
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing. Additional information—such as charges, court records, or a more detailed account of what led to the gunfire—would typically follow after detectives complete interviews and evidence review.
