JTA Fare Reductions Take Effect

Starting today, Sunday, February 1, 2026, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) has officially launched its six-month fare modification pilot program. This initiative aims to increase ridership and provide economic relief to the community. Commuters using the Fixed Route Bus services will see fares reduced from $1.75 to $1.00. Additionally, Connexion Paratransit fares have been lowered to $2.00, while the Neighborhood Autonomous Vehicle Innovation (NAVI) shuttles remain complimentary for downtown travelers. Transit officials will be monitoring ridership data through July to determine if these price points will become permanent.

Major Arteries: I-95 and I-295 North Interchange

Drivers on the Northside should continue to exercise caution as the massive I-95/I-295 North Interchange Operational Improvements project enters its final phases. While the $176.8 million project is nearing its anticipated spring completion, active construction zones remain between Cole Road and the Broward River. Sunday travelers can expect light traffic, but be prepared for permanent lane shifts that were implemented to facilitate the new collector-distributor system. This system is designed to reduce the number of lane changes required for motorists transitioning between the two interstates.

I-10 Widening Project Completion

In a major win for Westside commuters, the long-term widening of I-10 from I-295 to I-95 is now substantially complete. Following the final removal of barrier walls and the conclusion of major detours in late January, the corridor now features up to ten lanes in several sections. While some minor punch-list work and landscaping may still be visible along the shoulders, the heavy traffic congestion and nightly closures that defined this project for the last five years have largely subsided, providing a significantly smoother transit experience toward Downtown Jacksonville.

Sunday Events and Local Roadwork Alerts

Those heading downtown this afternoon for the performance of "Carmen" at the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts should anticipate localized congestion near the Times Union Center starting around 2:00 p.m. In addition to event traffic, commuters should be aware of the following local impacts:

  • Buckman Bridge (I-295): Periodic maintenance operations continue on the bridge; however, no lane closures are scheduled for the daytime Sunday hours.
  • Emerson Street (I-95): Active construction near the Atlantic Boulevard exit may cause slight delays for northbound travelers due to ongoing ramp improvements.
  • Normandy Boulevard: Be advised that FDOT is currently conducting safety studies near Yellow Water Road, though no active closures are reported for today.

Nighttime lane closures associated with bridge painting and minor road repairs across Duval County are scheduled to resume this evening at 9:00 p.m. on portions of Cassat Avenue and Edgewood Avenue.
