Investigation expanded from private recordings to alleged online postings and additional assault allegations

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Jacksonville man on multiple sex-related felony charges after an investigation that began in mid-2025 and later broadened to include allegations of sexual battery involving an incapacitated victim.

JSO said its Special Assault Unit arrested Evan Kaufman, 32, on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026. Investigators identified charges that include sexual battery, sexual cyber harassment and video voyeurism. Detectives also said they are working to determine whether there are additional victims and are asking anyone with relevant information to come forward.

What detectives say triggered the case

Detectives said the investigation began in June 2025 after reports that multiple women had engaged in consensual sexual activity with Kaufman that was recorded under the understanding that the videos would remain private. Investigators said they later determined that the recordings were uploaded to multiple pornographic websites, and that in some instances the postings included a woman’s name.

Investigators said the online dissemination element is central to the case because victims may not immediately know that images or video of them were shared publicly, or may discover it only after a third party alerts them. Detectives said that possibility is one reason they believe additional victims may exist.

Allegations involving intoxication and unconsciousness

As the inquiry continued, detectives said they learned of a separate allegation that Kaufman sexually battered a victim who was under the influence of alcohol and unconscious. Investigators also described an additional report in which a victim said video voyeurism occurred while she was intoxicated and unconscious.

JSO has not publicly detailed how many total complainants are involved, which websites were allegedly used, or the time span of the alleged postings. Detectives have not released probable cause details beyond the allegations summarized in the investigative update.

How authorities define the alleged conduct

  • Video voyeurism allegations generally involve recording or sharing intimate images without consent in circumstances where privacy is expected.

  • Sexual cyber harassment allegations involve digital conduct that can include posting sexually explicit images without consent, particularly when used to harass, intimidate or cause harm.

  • Sexual battery allegations can involve cases in which a person is allegedly unable to consent due to intoxication or unconsciousness.

Investigators said they believe there may be more victims who may not realize videos or images involving them were posted online.

How to contact investigators

Anyone who believes Kaufman may have assaulted them or posted images of them online is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Special Assault Unit at 904-630-2168. JSO said detectives are seeking additional information as the investigation continues.
