Jacksonville police seek 23-year-old suspect in deadly University Boulevard hit-and-run as investigators release new images

What investigators say happened
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for help identifying and locating a 23-year-old man accused of fleeing after a deadly hit-and-run on University Boulevard. The agency released images of the suspect and urged anyone who recognizes him to come forward as the investigation continues.
The crash occurred on University Boulevard South in the 1900 block, near the St. Cecilia area. Investigators have described the incident as a high-speed collision involving multiple vehicles that ended with one person dead and others injured.
Crash sequence and immediate aftermath
Investigators have said a Dodge Challenger traveling at a high rate of speed struck a Nissan that was heading north. After the impact, the Nissan spun, hit a utility pole and caught fire. The Challenger then spun into oncoming traffic and struck a Toyota traveling south.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue crews extinguished the fire. The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. Two people in the Toyota were transported to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.
Detectives said the Challenger’s driver left the scene on foot without calling for help or rendering aid. The suspect has been described as a white man in his early to mid-20s with a tan complexion.
Why the public-identification push matters
In hit-and-run investigations, the timeline between the crash and identifying the driver can be critical. Detectives typically seek surveillance video, vehicle sightings, and information from witnesses who may have seen a driver running from the scene or noticed damage to a vehicle that matches the crash circumstances.
By releasing images tied to the case, investigators are signaling that identifying the suspect remains a priority and that leads from the public could help establish a location, confirm a route of flight, or connect the suspect to the involved vehicle.
How to provide information
- Share tips with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office through its non-emergency tip channels.
- Preserve any doorbell, business, or dash camera video from the University Boulevard South corridor around the time of the crash.
- Report sightings only through law enforcement; residents are advised not to approach a wanted suspect.
Anyone with information that could help identify or locate the suspect is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains active. Detectives have not publicly released additional details on potential charges beyond the allegation that the driver left the scene of a fatal crash, or whether the suspect has retained legal representation.
