Fiery crash followed carjacking and police attempt to stop stolen vehicle

Body-worn camera footage released in Jacksonville shows a patrol officer pulling a woman from a burning vehicle after a carjacking suspect crashed a stolen car into another vehicle, triggering a fire that trapped the other driver. The incident unfolded after officers located the stolen vehicle within a short distance of the reported carjacking and attempted to stop it.

During the attempted stop, the suspect’s vehicle collided with another car. The impact led to a fire in at least one of the vehicles and created an immediate rescue situation at the crash scene, with occupants in multiple vehicles affected.

Officer entered hazardous conditions to remove driver from burning car

The bodycam video captures the moments when Officer Almin Residovic ran toward the burning vehicle and reached the trapped driver. Investigators said the driver’s hair was on fire when the officer arrived at the vehicle. The footage and police statements indicate the officer physically removed her from the car and then began providing emergency medical assistance until additional responders arrived.

A 14-year-old passenger was able to get out of the burning vehicle before officers reached it, authorities said. The driver rescued from the burning car later reported she was recovering from injuries and expressed gratitude for the rescue, police said.

Separate rescue focused on a 1-year-old child inside the stolen vehicle

At the same crash scene, another officer removed a 1-year-old child from the stolen vehicle, police said. Authorities reported the child was not injured.

The presence of a very young child inside the stolen vehicle became a central factor in the criminal allegations filed after the arrest, based on the charges disclosed by law enforcement.

Suspect arrested at scene; multiple felony charges announced

Police identified the suspect as 34-year-old Richard Younger, who was taken into custody at the crash location. Authorities said he faces multiple felony charges tied to the initial carjacking and the events that followed, including:

  • Carjacking
  • Leaving the scene of a crash without rendering aid
  • Aggravated fleeing from law enforcement after a crash
  • False imprisonment of a child under 13 years of age

What the footage adds—and what remains unresolved

The release of bodycam footage provides a time-stamped record of the immediate response: the officer’s approach to the burning vehicle, the extraction of the trapped driver, and the transition to first aid. However, key questions about the underlying collision dynamics—such as speed, precise sequence of impact, and contributing factors—typically depend on crash reconstruction and follow-up investigation.

At this stage, the verified public details focus on the rescue actions, the presence of a child in the stolen vehicle, and the arrest and charging decisions announced by law enforcement.

Emergency responders frequently emphasize that post-crash fires can escalate rapidly, narrowing the window for safe extrication and increasing the risk to trapped occupants and rescuers.
