Morning Commute Overview for Thursday, February 12, 2026

Jacksonville commuters should prepare for a mix of ongoing major construction projects and specific ramp closures affecting the morning and evening drives today. While major arteries like I-295 remain largely clear of new incidents this morning, the long-term widening projects on I-10 and I-95 continue to dictate traffic patterns through the urban core and northside. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time when navigating interchanges near Downtown and the Northside.

Major Roadwork and Interstate Alerts

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) continues its aggressive widening of I-10 between I-295 and I-95. For today, Thursday, February 12, motorists should be aware of specific impacts at the Cassat Avenue interchange. The nighttime eastbound off-ramp to Cassat Avenue is scheduled for closure, which may affect early morning travelers arriving before 5:00 a.m. and those departing late tonight. Additionally, crews are active between Hollywood Avenue and Post Street with daytime lane closures scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

On the Northside, I-95 remains a focus area. Daytime lane closures are in effect from Max Leggett Parkway to Busch Drive between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to accommodate road surfacing and safety improvements. Commuters using the I-95 and I-295 North interchange should also watch for residual lane shifts following recent overnight bridge operations.

Local Street and Overpass Impacts

  • San Diego Road: A continuous road closure remains in effect at the I-95 overpass. This closure is part of a long-term reconstruction project scheduled to last through summer 2027. Local traffic must continue to follow the posted detours.
  • Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. 17): Nighttime westbound closures near St. Johns Avenue are active through February 15. Drivers should expect lane restrictions starting at 7:00 p.m. this evening.
  • U.S. 17 at Eagle Harbor Parkway: Nighttime lane closures are scheduled from 7:00 p.m. tonight until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning for utility and road work.

JTA Public Transit and Fare Updates

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is currently in the second week of its 2026 fare reduction pilot program. As of February 1, fixed-route bus fares have been reduced to $1 per ride. This reduction also applies to paratransit connections, which have been lowered from $2 to $1. These changes are intended to alleviate costs for daily commuters while the city evaluates long-term budget strategies.

For those traveling within the Downtown Northbank, the NAVI autonomous shuttles operating along Bay Street remain free to the public. However, riders should be aware that JTA is currently managing a budget shortfall related to these innovation projects, though service levels for the NAVI and the Skyway remain unaffected for today's schedule. Service enhancements for several fixed-route lines are also in effect as of the latest January 26 update; commuters should check their updated schedules at the JRTC at LaVilla or local libraries.
