Morning Traffic Overview for Monday, March 16, 2026

Jacksonville commuters should prepare for a mix of ongoing construction shifts and significant public transit adjustments this morning. As the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) pushes toward the final stages of several multi-year projects, Monday morning traffic is expected to be heaviest on the west and north sides of the city.

I-10 Widening and Interchange Updates

The I-10 widening project between I-295 and I-95 continues to be the primary focus for Westside commuters. While overnight closures at McDuff Avenue and Lane Avenue were scheduled to lift early this morning, drivers will encounter relatively new traffic shifts. FDOT has implemented these shifts to allow for final surfacing work and the completion of the new pedestrian tunnel at Luna Street. Commuters are advised to maintain a steady speed and watch for updated signage as the project nears its mid-2026 completion date.

On the Northside, the long-standing reconstruction of the I-95 and I-295 interchange remains active. Although significant traffic shifts occurring over the last few months have helped alleviate some congestion, the area remains down to fewer lanes in key transition points. Expect delays of 10 to 15 minutes during the peak 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM window.

JTA Service Alerts and Skyway Bus Bridge

Public transport users should take note of a major service interruption on the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) Skyway. As of last week, the Skyway Southbank Line is operating on a "Bus Bridge" between the Kings Avenue and Rosa Parks Stations. This is due to an ongoing maintenance issue that has restricted the Downtown Line to a single train. Commuters relying on the monorail should plan for additional travel time to account for the bus transition.

  • Route 8: Remains on detour due to the continued road closure on the Art Museum Drive Bridge.
  • Route 12: Drivers and riders should expect delays near Myrtle Avenue and Kings Road due to active JEA utility construction.
  • Route 22: Detours are still in effect for the construction zone near 13th Street and Fairfax Street.

Surface Street Roadworks

In the Southside area, the $29.8 million resurfacing project on Southside Boulevard near Deerwood Park Boulevard is entering its final months. While major lane closures are restricted to overnight hours, daytime drivers may still experience minor delays due to temporary shoulder work and equipment movement. Additionally, motorists on Beach Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard should stay alert for new median modifications near Walker Lane and Century Street, which are part of a safety initiative launched earlier this year.
