Incident reported late Feb. 3 in the Norwood area

Four teenagers have been arrested and charged with armed robbery and attempted murder after investigators say they confronted a man sitting in his vehicle and a shootout followed in Northwest Jacksonville.

The incident occurred just before midnight on Feb. 3 in the 1000 block of Crestwood Street, in the Norwood area on Jacksonville’s Northside. Patrol officers responded to reports of an armed robbery and shots fired and began an investigation at the scene.

What investigators say happened

Investigators say the man was inside his car when four suspects approached him, armed with firearms, and ordered him to get out of the vehicle. After he exited, gunfire was exchanged between the man and the group.

Authorities say the man shot two of the suspects during the exchange. One was struck in the leg and another in the back. Police reported both injuries were not considered life-threatening at the time, and the two injured suspects were taken to a hospital. Investigators later said one of the suspects remained hospitalized recovering from a gunshot wound.

Arrests and charges

Police say all four suspects are teenagers. The Sheriff’s Office has described the group as including two 16-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old. Another law-enforcement briefing on the case described the group as two 16-year-olds and two 15-year-olds, reflecting that at least one suspect’s age may be tied to the date of the alleged offense.

All four have been booked on charges of armed robbery and attempted murder, authorities said. The Sheriff’s Office has not released additional investigative details on a potential motive beyond the reported robbery attempt.

Investigation status

The Sheriff’s Office has said the investigation remains active. Detectives have not publicly detailed what evidence they are relying on, whether additional suspects are being sought, or whether any firearms were recovered.

Authorities issued a public warning urging parents and guardians to monitor teens’ activities and peer groups, while pointing to community resources intended to reduce youth violence.

Further court records, including potential bond decisions, charging affidavits and any defense filings, are expected to provide more detail about the allegations and the sequence of events leading to the exchange of gunfire.
