Downtown Jacksonville’s Super Food & Brew to close after nearly a decade at 11 East

A long-running lunch-and-dinner fixture in the city’s core is set to end service
Super Food & Brew, a health-oriented gastropub in Downtown Jacksonville, is scheduled to close at the end of business on Dec. 31, 2024, concluding nearly a decade of operations in the 11 East apartment building at Forsyth and Main streets.
The restaurant opened in 2015 at 11 E. Forsyth St., occupying an L-shaped dining room with street-level visibility at a prominent corner in the Northbank’s historic core. The closure date, announced publicly by the business, provides a defined timeline for customers and nearby office and residential patrons who have relied on the venue for weekday meals and evening dining.
Concept and operations
Super Food & Brew positioned itself as a “healthy gastropub,” offering a menu spanning sandwiches, salads, poke bowls, dinners and desserts, alongside a craft beer selection. Posted hours indicated lunch-to-evening service most days, with later closing times on Fridays and Saturdays.
Menu items included small plates such as wings, hummus and pita, pork belly bites, spicy tuna tartare, and grilled zucchini with cheese. Dinner offerings included proteins such as steak, salmon and shrimp, as well as stir-fry and chicken plates—choices that placed the restaurant between casual bar-and-grill expectations and a more health-forward fast-casual approach.
Ownership timeline
The business originated with the operators of the Super Food food truck and later expanded into the brick-and-mortar location downtown. In 2017, the restaurant’s chef, Randal Gonzalez, took ownership—an arrangement that kept day-to-day culinary leadership tied to the operation as it continued in the same location.
Why the location matters to Downtown
The restaurant sits inside 11 East, a 17-story, 126-unit loft apartment building constructed in 1926. Its storefront occupies space that has cycled through other high-profile food-and-beverage tenants over the decades, reflecting the challenges and opportunities for street-level retail in a downtown environment shaped by office traffic, events, and a growing residential base.
Super Food & Brew is expected to stop service on Dec. 31, 2024.
What happens next
No successor tenant or redevelopment plan for the restaurant space has been publicly confirmed in connection with the announced closing. The end-of-year shutdown leaves a notable vacancy at a key intersection, and it will likely renew attention on how downtown landlords, property managers and city stakeholders maintain a critical mass of food options that serve both residents and the daytime workforce.
