City Notice Roundup: Measles Health Advisory and Upcoming Public Meetings

Health Advisory: Pediatric Measles Cases Confirmed
The Florida Department of Health in Duval County and Baptist Health have issued an urgent public health advisory following the confirmation of two pediatric measles cases in Jacksonville. The cases involve two children from the same household who sought emergency care at the Baptist Health main campus on January 16. While the patients did not require hospital admission, health officials are urging parents to ensure their children’s vaccinations are up to date. Measles is a highly contagious viral respiratory illness characterized by high fever, cough, and a distinctive red rash. Local health authorities are working with healthcare providers to monitor for further transmission and provide immunizations to unprotected residents.

Public Safety and Utility Service Announcements
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) is currently conducting a death investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body in the 4000 block of Sunbeam Road on Friday afternoon. While the investigation is in its early stages, JSO has encouraged anyone with information to contact the department. Additionally, JSO reported the arrest of four Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department employees involved in a series of paintball incidents targeting patrol vehicles and other property.
Regarding utility services, JEA has announced the deployment of restoration crews to South Carolina to assist with power recovery efforts following a severe winter storm in that region. While Jacksonville expects mild conditions this weekend with highs in the mid-50s, JEA remains part of a mutual aid network to support neighboring states during weather-related emergencies. Local customers are reminded that JEA operations in Duval County remain unaffected by this deployment.
