Official Public Notices for Monday, March 9, 2026

The City of Jacksonville and surrounding beach communities have issued several official notices and public service announcements regarding local governance, infrastructure projects, and public health. Residents are encouraged to review the following updates to stay informed on municipal activities and safety guidelines active for Monday, March 9, 2026.

City Council and Local Governance

A Town Hall meeting hosted by Council Member Johnson is scheduled for this evening, Monday, March 9, at 6:00 PM. This meeting serves as an open forum for constituents to discuss community-specific issues and legislative priorities. Additionally, the Jacksonville City Council is set to convene for its regular meeting tomorrow, March 10, at 5:00 PM in the City Hall Chambers at the St. James Building.

  • Irish American Heritage Month: By way of Resolution 2026-111, the City of Jacksonville has officially designated March 2026 as Irish American Heritage Month, celebrating the contributions of the Irish community to the city's history and culture.
  • Women’s History Month: Resolution 2026-197 is currently under consideration to honor and recognize March 2026 as Women’s History Month, celebrating the historic achievements of women across Duval County.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Alert

The Florida Department of Health in Duval County, under the direction of Chief Health Officer Dr. Sunil Joshi, continues to monitor a health advisory following the confirmation of measles cases within the county. Health officials have confirmed five cases of the virus since early February, with the majority of cases being linked through community contact. Residents are urged to ensure their vaccinations are up to date and to contact healthcare providers if they exhibit symptoms such as high fever, cough, or a characteristic rash.

Road Construction and Traffic Impacts

Several infrastructure projects are impacting traffic in the beach communities this week. Motorists should plan for the following closures and delays:

  • Jacksonville Beach: A total road closure is in effect on 2nd Street South between 12th and 13th Avenues South for downtown redevelopment. This closure is scheduled to remain in place through March 12, 2026.
  • Neptune Beach: Public Works is conducting manhole repairs at the intersection of Strickland Road and Forest Avenue. Expect road closures on Strickland Road and single-lane closures on Kings Road near the repair site through March 13, 2026.
  • Dune Walkovers: Ongoing construction for dune walkover replacements continues at 20 sites along the coast, with an estimated project completion date of late April 2026.

Coastal Safety and Environmental Monitoring

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a statement regarding coastal conditions. A moderate to high risk of rip currents is present at all Duval County beaches today due to lingering southeasterly swells. Beachgoers are advised to swim only in sight of a lifeguard and to follow the posted flag warning system. Additionally, the City is currently moving forward with Ordinance 2026-64 to allocate funds for the replacement of ambient air monitoring equipment at the Rosselle air monitoring site to ensure continued compliance with federal EPA air quality standards.
