City Notice Roundup: Cold Weather Alerts, Council Meetings, and Health Advisories

Emergency Cold Weather Measures and Warming Center Extension
In response to the persistent arctic front and sub-zero wind chills impacting Northeast Florida, the City of Jacksonville has extended the activation of its Warming Center Contingency Plan through Monday, February 2, 2026. The Legends Center, located at 5130 Soutel Drive, will remain open as a primary facility for residents lacking access to adequate heat. The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) continues to provide transport for vulnerable individuals from various bus stops across Duval County to the center.
- Safety Protocol: Residents are reminded to adhere to the '5 P’s' of cold-weather safety: protect People, Pets, Plants, and Pipes, and Practice fire safety when using supplemental heating sources.
- Hours: The overnight warming center remains active until 9:00 a.m. Monday morning, with daytime warming available at all city libraries and community centers during normal business hours.
Utility Usage Advisory: Peak Demand Warnings
Utility providers JEA and Beaches Energy Services have issued a public service announcement for Monday morning, February 2. Due to extreme low temperatures driving record demand, residents are requested to limit their electricity and water usage between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Recommended measures include lowering thermostats and postponing the use of heavy appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines. To assist in grid stabilization, the City of Jacksonville Beach has announced that all non-essential city offices and Beaches Energy Services will delay opening until 11:00 a.m. today.

Public Health: Ongoing Immunization Access
In light of recently confirmed measles cases in the Duval County area, health officials are emphasizing the continued availability of vaccinations. While special weekend pop-up clinics have concluded, the Florida Department of Health in Duval County (DOH-Duval) remains open for walk-in immunizations today from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Vaccines for MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), influenza, and Hepatitis A are available at 515 West 6th Street and 3225 University Boulevard South.
