Agreement positions Jacksonville for expanded air cargo activity

Amazon Air has reached an agreement with the Jacksonville Aviation Authority to operate an air cargo hub at Jacksonville International Airport, with operations expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The plan calls for Amazon to lease Air Cargo Building Four, a 50,000-square-foot facility at 14200 Pecan Park Road, for package storage and processing.

The facility is expected to become Amazon Air’s first air cargo operation in Northeast Florida. Jacksonville Aviation Authority officials said the move is intended to strengthen Amazon’s existing logistics footprint in the region and to support faster movement of selected shipments into and out of Northeast Florida.

What will change for regional logistics

Jacksonville Aviation Authority officials stated that, today, the closest Amazon Air facility is in Tampa. Under the current arrangement, some shipments destined for Jacksonville are flown into Tampa and then transported by truck to Northeast Florida. By establishing a local air cargo operation at Jacksonville International Airport, the authority expects that delivery times could improve for certain product categories and lanes, reflecting reduced reliance on trucking from other Florida air gateways.

Amazon is expected to occupy the entire Air Cargo Building Four footprint. The building previously housed multiple tenants, including air cargo and logistics operators.

Permitting, timeline and operational considerations

Before the facility can be prepared for Amazon Air operations, required permitting and related approvals are expected to be part of the next steps. The Jacksonville Aviation Authority did not disclose lease terms in connection with the agreement.

While operations are projected to begin in late 2026, the pace will depend on the permitting process and facility readiness work needed to support air cargo processing and aircraft ground handling.

How the hub fits Amazon’s existing Jacksonville footprint

Amazon’s expansion into air cargo operations at Jacksonville International Airport comes alongside a broader local logistics presence. Amazon has built out multiple Jacksonville-area facilities over the past several years, including fulfillment centers, sortation centers, delivery stations and a heavy bulk freight operation. The air cargo hub would add an airport-based link to that network, complementing ground distribution and last-mile delivery capacity already in place.
